Laptop insurance (Hepster)

Insurable devices: new and used electronic devices including original accessories, uniquely identifiable via the serial/IMEI number stated on the insurance certificate.

Insured events (Basis):

• Drop, breakage, sand and liquid damage (as far as use/display/function is impaired)
• Mechanically applied force
• Fire, explosion, implosion, power surge, induction, short circuit
• Sabotage, vandalism
• Battery wear; battery/display damage (unless a warranty/guarantee claim applies)
• Intentional unlawful damage by unauthorised third parties
• Operating errors and improper handling

Additionally in the extended variant (theft module):

• Theft, if the device was securely carried in personal custody (constant visual/physical contact)
• Burglary theft from a locked car (in a non-visible area) or a locked house/apartment/room
• Robbery and looting (through the use or threat of violence, or seizure after the loss of the ability to resist)

Territorial scope: worldwide; benefits are provided in Germany.

• The amount of the sum insured is not stated in the IPID – it follows from the insurance certificate.
• Entry-level price from €1.90/month (per the product page, as of July 2026).

• Removable storage media, auxiliary/operating materials, consumables, tools, separately/subsequently purchased accessories, software of any kind, devices delivered defective, instruments
• Devices without a known serial/IMEI number
• Devices manufactured/modified to customer specification
• Grossly negligent/intentional conduct
• Battery wear if maximum battery capacity exceeds 60%, or if the device is older than 4 years
• Loss through leaving behind, forgetting, or misplacing the device (outside the insured theft scenarios)
• Damage that already existed before the contract began
• Damage covered under warranty/manufacturer's guarantee
• War, civil war, civil unrest, pandemics, nuclear energy/ionising radiation, strikes/industrial action, seizure, sovereign acts

• No explicit waiting period stated in the IPID (unlike for bicycle/e-bike insurance).
• No percentage deductible stated; the practical coverage limit instead comes from the battery-wear age rule (60% / 4 years, see above).

• Obligations include: reporting the serial/IMEI number of a new/replacement device within 2 weeks of receipt; reporting a claim online within 14 days; reporting theft/burglary theft/robbery/looting/vandalism/sabotage to the police within 24 hours.
• Monthly plan: minimum term 3 months, 3 business days' notice. Annual plan: automatic renewal, same notice period.
